JESCOMEAO

Jesuit in the forest at dawn.

The following guidelines were proposed to help clarify the role, functions, and areas of responsibility of Province/Jesuit Regional Unit JESCOMEAO secretaries:

Role:

    1. To promote the growth of the communications ministry in the Province.
    2. To advise the Provincial/Regional superior on the communications ministry of the Province/Region.
    3. To be the liaison with the JESCOMEAO Secretary of the Jesuit region.

Functions:

    1. Demonstration. Demonstrate why communications is a top priority and essential dimension of the modern Jesuit ministry by developing and using one's own communications skills in dealing with colleagues and superiors, and through visible, effective projects and productions.
    2. Training. Provide appropriate communications training for Jesuits in the Province, or advise on where such training can be obtained.
    3. Service. Take the initiative in offering one's services to the Provincial, the formatores and other Jesuits, for their communications needs, especially in the area of Province priorities.

Suggested Areas of Responsibility:

    1. Attend and participate in all JESCOMEAO meetings.
    2. Hold regular Province-level JESCOMEAO meetings.
    3. Maintain contact with Jesuit organizations and individuals working in communications throughout the Province.
    4. Visit/interview novices and scholastics, especially those who show ability or interest in communications.
    5. Make available to the Provincial, formatores (those in charge of training scholastics or seminarians), and other interested Jesuits, a list of programs and opportunities for training in communications.
    6. Regularly supply the JESCOMEAO Secretary with and up-to-date list of names and addresses of Jesuits working or interested in communications in the Province, to facilitate their receiving JESCOMEAO Network News and other mailings.
    7. When requested, provide the JESCOMEAO Secretary with a statistical report of communications activities in the Province (e.g., productions, publications, training courses, etc.).
    8. Assist the JESCOMEAO Secretary in planning and arranging his visit to your Province.
    9. Communicate regularly with the JESCOMEAO Secretary.
